When we recklessly reduce and underfund this institution, we are hampering our ability to improve people’s lives and to effectively address our pressing social, economic, and environmental problems.
And when the government is broke, the citizens pay the price - in many ways. The entire cost of running the government falls to the citizen who also receives fewer services from poverty stricken government. Schools and infrastructure carry much of the burden.
The problem is simple to solve if there were a will to solve it. Make corporations pay the taxes that they legitimately owe.
We need to recognize that despite its problems, government plays an essential role in promoting the good life for all Americans.
The term "the beast" in this context refers to the United States Federal Government and the programs it funds, using mainly American tax payer dollars, particularly social programs such as education, welfare, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Currently our tax laws do the opposite. The law encourages U.S. companies to keep money outside of the country and to spend it overseas.
