Both the intentional misrepresentation of information and the causing of death qualify as crimes. Crimes involving moral turpitude have an inherent quality of evil with respect to a duty to society. As with the 'big tobacco' crimes, 'big oil' is knowingly killing us and intentionally diverting our attention away from the truth.
That the corporate duty is only to create profits for share-holders is obvious. That the corporations would do so at the expense of all of us living on the planet is a crime. There is now a new report that clearly demonstrates that fossil fuel companies have known all along that they were destroying the environment and the living organisms of this planet in their quest for profits. The documents show that 'big oil' has been lying to us for decades. They didn't require warnings from the scientific community to start their long campaign of denying the truth about climate-change. They already knew that their business model was a threat to all of humanity.
One of their own documents proves their criminal conspiracy: one of the key documents highlighted in the deception dossiers is a 1995 internal memo written by a team headed by a Mobil Corporation scientist and distributed to many major fossil fuel companies. The internal report warned unequivocally that burning the companies' products was causing climate change and that the relevant science "is well established and cannot be denied."
This information is made available to us by the Union of Concerned Scientists in their report: The Climate Deception Dossiers. The report says "Internal fossil fuel industry memos reveal decades of disinformation—a deliberate campaign to deceive the public that continues even today."
UCS was founded in 1969 by scientists and students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. That year, the Vietnam War was at its height and Cleveland’s heavily polluted Cuyahoga River had caught fire. Appalled at how the U.S. government was misusing science, the UCS founders drafted a statement calling for scientific research to be directed away from military technologies and toward solving pressing environmental and social problems.
The history of these interventions and the ensuing protests serve as a cautionary tale for today’s geoengineers and, indeed, the organizations that will be tasked with regulating any future geoengineering. While some are keen to jump in with a quick and possibly profitable fix to climate change, others see a field fraught with technical, moral and political problems. As Fleming writes: “Geoengineering is in fact untested and dangerous. We don’t understand it, we can’t test it on smaller than planetary scales, and we don’t have the political capital, wisdom, or will to govern it. Planetary tinkering is not “cheap”, as some economists claim, since the side effects are unknown … Most poignantly, by turning the blue sky milky white or the blue oceans soupy green, by attenuating sunlight – and with it starlight, and by putting bureaucrats and technocrats in charge of a global thermostat, geoengineering will alter fundamental human relationships to nature.” (source)
We have had people like James Hansen telling us the truth for many years. From 1981 to 2013, he was the head of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. He worked with radiative transfer models, attempting to understand the atmosphere of Venus which he applied to understanding the Earth's atmosphere, especially the effects on Earth's climate. Hansen's development and use of global climate models has contributed to the understanding of the Earth's climate. It was his testimony in front of the US congress that opened our collective eyes to the dangers of climate change.
Bill McKibben is an American environmentalist, author, and journalist who has written extensively on the impact of global warming. He is a leader of the anti-carbon campaign group 350.org. His first book The End of Nature in 1989 was about climate change.
Al Gore, former Vice President, is a leader in defending the climate.. His film An Inconvenient Truth has been credited for raising international public awareness of climate change and reenergizing the environmental movement.
He also advocates civil disobedience as a tactic to save the planet..."If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration."
“I can’t understand why there aren’t rings of young people blocking bulldozers,” Mr. Gore said, “and preventing them from constructing coal-fired power plants.”
Many of those who profit from burning fossil fuels argue that we can fix injuries to the planet with 'geo-engineering'. But, again, we've been told the truth about geo-engineering and we had better be listening to this truth. It is ridiculous for humanity to hold-out for 'hope' from this direction!
James Van Allen is one of these truth-tellers. The May 4, 1959 Time magazine credited James Van Allen as the man most responsible for giving the U.S. "a big lead in scientific achievement." (over Russia)
As a point of reference, one of the first attempts at geo-engineering planet Earth was Project Argus in 1958.
James Van Allen, discoverer of the Van Allen radiation belts, was initially enthusiastic at the Argus accomplishment: “The U.S. tests, already carried out successfully, undoubtedly constitute the greatest geophysical experiment ever conducted by man.”
Van Allen later regretted his participation in these experiments, and above-ground nuclear weapons testing was finally banned in 1963, ending this kind of geo-engineering.
The criminals have sown doubt about the science of climate change and have fought against efforts to cut the emissions of heat-trapping gases. They have hidden behind fake 'citizen organizations' of their own creation to disrupt and disorient real citizen involvement. They have sent fake letters to congress.
Criminals need to be punished! We haven't punished 'big tobacco' who continues to commit crimes against humanity (see Phillip Morris vs Uruguay). We haven't even attempted to jail the Banksters for their well documented felonies to which they have pleaded guilty. We know that these criminals regard huge 'fines' as the cost of doing business.
If we continue to allow 'big oil' a free rein, we are doomed. We need to jail those criminals who are committing these horrible crimes against all of man-kind !!!
