'They' are really good with 'sleight of hand' or, 'redirects'. Always leading to some form of fraud. Fortunately not everyone is fooled, this time. As the article states, "Veterans of the Selma movement are receiving the Congressional Gold Medal, but would rather see the Voting Rights Act fixed."
Every lawyer knows that intentional discrimination, which had never before been required before, is impossible to prove.
“This Congress has done nothing, not even held a hearing, on two bipartisan bills,” says Wade Henderson, president of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. “While Congress should honor the Selma struggle, a medal is not nearly enough to redeem what our nation lost when the Voting Rights Act was gutted.”
Congressional Republicans continue to opt for symbolism over substance. Twenty-one Republican members of Congress visited Selma with Lewis for the fiftieth anniversary of Bloody Sunday last year, but only two sponsored legislation to restore the VRA. There are eighty-two Republican members of Congress who voted to reauthorize the VRA in 2006 but have not signed on to either bill fixing the law.
Congress goes hand in hand with those working-class voters who believe that whites are a supreme race and who long for the Confederacy. Awarding gold medals is simply a publicity stunt with no real substance. It is a show for propaganda's sake, and that's the truth !!!
