Donald Trump's speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations lasted 42 minutes. The citizens of the United States should be embarrassed to have their leader stand in front of the world and utter statements that everyone listening knows to be false. It would seem that he himself would have been greatly embarrassed to say some of the things he said. Do facts have anything to do with anything he says? Did he not feel a bid self-conscious telling some of the lies he spouted? Certainly the people to whom he addressed his remarks knew the truth about many of his statements.
Trump started with the stock market reporting record highs. He didn't explain any of the methods used to control stock and commodity prices such as the Federal Reserve zero interest policy.
He spoke highly of how well employment is doing but didn't say that most of the new jobs are part-time, low paying temporary service jobs with no benefits. We all know that employment statistics are heavily manipulated to produce good results. He did acknowledge that the U.S. has lost huge numbers of factory jobs to other countries.
Those listening in the audience must have been stunned as he said, “we do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone”. To the amazement of those present, he repeated that same thing, saying we “did not attempt to impose our way of life on others.” The wonder is that they were able to hold back their laughter.
Trump continued the foreign policy portion of his speech by talking about the "rule of law" and a “small group of rogue regimes". All of those present to hear him speak were likely thinking that The United States is itself the major rogue regime that constantly operates outside of the rule of law. Those in attendance at the United Nations are aware of the various international rules which the United States violates with each 'regime change'.
He substitutes the name of Iran for Saudi Arabia when placing blame for the ongoing issues in the middle-east. The United States always ignores the true history relating to this subject. It was 'us' who overthrew a democratically government of Iran in 1953 and forced the Shah on the people who revolted.
And, irony of ironies, he praises Saudi Arabia as those who “confront terrorism and confront the Islamic extremism that inspires them….to expose and hold responsible those countries who support and finance terror groups….”
He mis-represents and condemns socialism, especially in those countries where socialism has been faithfully implemented.
Having lied and mis-illustrated the world and world history throughout his speech, he saved the 'punch line' for the end... he claimed that the United States is “among the greatest forces for good in the history of the world”. He continued by piling on more self praise for the United States "and the greatest defenders of sovereignty, security, and prosperity for all." The audience, representatives of nations all around the world, many of whom are victims of the United States 'good work', rolled on the floor in a hilarious fit of laughter at that statement. (see video of speech)
Actually, they did not laugh uproariously. They could have, given the content of his speech, but they did not. When he finished speaking, they gave him polite applause, and that's the truth !!!
There are two sides to the argument... Trump's speech was pleasing to John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations for the United States [recess appointee by President George W. Bush]. Bolton said, "This was the best speech of the Trump presidency in my view. I think he was as clear and direct as it’s possible to be...I think the centerpiece of the speech was the criticism of the behavior of North Korea and Iran. And I think it’s safe to say in the entire history of the United Nations, there has never been a more straightforward criticism of the behavior, the unacceptable behavior of other member states.”
Bolton ignores the many serious, straightforward criticisms of the unacceptable behavior of the United States spoken at the podium of the United Nations. But, that's a truth some people in this country cannot deal with... and really, 'that' is the truth !!!
